Who’s birthday? o.O

To start off, I’m not particularly considered as one of those who are especially dedicated to saving our earth like joining activities that involve helping the environment, but I try to do my part. If I can’t plant a sapling or help clean the coasts from garbage, I would at least make sure that I’d throw my trash into the right kind of bin. Of course, that was before I found out that wasn’t the healthiest option for our environment either.
Consumerism was the last thing on my mind until this year. I had only realized recently the true power of overconsumption. Although we do have recycling bins for plastic bottles, we’re not technically sure we even have recycling facilities here in the Philippines. So where our trash really goes, I have no clue; but what I do know is that the more we carelessly throw recyclable things away, the more we contribute to the bad stuff. Suddenly, the old motto comes back into play: Reduce, Re-use, and Recycle. So far I’ve been doing all right with preserving electricity and water when I’m not using them, but I can’t really say the same for the plastic bottles I keep buying and throwing away.
Every time I hold a plastic bottle in my hand, my first impulse would be to throw it into the recycling bin the moment it’s empty. Honestly, I don’t like lugging things around and waiting until I get home to set them down. Just thinking of the extra waste I’d be contributing kind of makes me think otherwise though. I have to admit, this is much harder for me to keep track of than conserving electricity or water. It’s especially hard because I love Fit N’ Right, Milk Tea, Mogu-Mogu, and other plastic-bottled drinks. For the sake of our environment though, I’ll try to consume less and just bring water/juice/milk in a jug or a reused plastic bottle. If a couple of people around the world did the same thing, I’m sure that it would make a huge difference.
